2011 EMERALD GREENS JUNIOR CLASSIC TOURNAMENT STORY
Tampa, FL – Warm temperatures and a well-conditioned course greeted the players of Premier Junior Tour as they competed in the 2011 Emerald Greens Junior Classic. Not only was there a 36
hole stroke play event, Premier also had a special Junior/Junior team event, combining both team members’ tournament scores together to compete for additional prizes. Play was conducted at
the Emerald Greens Golf Resort & Country Club, on the Pine and Meadow Nines. Thunderstorms rolled in about midway through Saturday’s first round, causing a 1 hour rain delay and softening
the course. Both days saw temperatures climb well into the 90’s and heat indexes in the mid 100’s.

The story of the weekend was Men 13-15 competitor
Sam Horsfield of Davenport, FL dominating once again. An opening round of three under par 69 gave him a four stroke leading heading into
Sunday over fellow competitor
Joseph Trim of Tampa, FL. Horsfield remained consistent, shooting under par again on Sunday, this time scoring a two under par round of 70. Horsfield’s total of
139 earned him a 13 stroke victory. “It was another great tournament ran by PJT and the course was really good. I played well and I was happy the way me and Anthony played. I hit the ball well all
weekend and made a few putts,” said Horsfield. Horsfield is now 17 under par in his last 6 rounds on Premier. Joseph Trim totaled a 79 on Sunday, finishing in second place at 152.
Kelly Sun of
Bradenton, FL finished third after shooting 76-81-157.

Soon to be collegiate athlete at Oglethorpe University,
Anthony Maccaglia of Tampa, FL also went under par in his play. Maccaglia fired a three under par 69 in Saturday’s opening round, building
for himself a three stroke lead going into Sunday. A Sunday 74 gave Maccaglia a total of one under par
143 and a five stroke victory. This is Maccaglia’s second win in a row on Premier. A tie for
second place resulted in a chip and putt playoff to determine who got the 2nd and 3rd place trophies.
Chet Ghioto (78-70) of Lutz, FL and Lucas Trim (74-74) of Tampa, FL finished regulation tied
at four over par 148. Both competitors got the ball up and down twice in a row in the playoff, which lead to a one-chip, closest to the hole situation. Ghioto pitched his ball nicely to about 3 feet,
however, Trim had a spectacular bump-and-run that nestled about a foot and a half from the pin. Trim was awarded second, Ghioto third.

Emma Paschal of Tampa, FL notched her first victory of the 2011 season at Emerald Greens. Playing for the first time in the 2011 season on Premier, Paschal was able to overcome a four stroke
deficit to claim victory. Paschal opened with a round of 83, which left her tied for second place, four behind round one leader
Nina Hwang of Wesley Chapel, FL. Paschal bounced back on Sunday,
shooting the lowest round of the tournament in the Division, a five over par 77. Hwang’s 83 on Sunday left her two behind Paschal and in a tie for second place. The victory earned Paschal 1200
points. Hwang was tied for second with
Kelsey Jensen of Plant City, FL, who shot 83-79 for a total of 162. A chip and putt playoff ensued for the second place trophy, and Jensen came out
victorious after she got her first chip up and down when Hwang failed to.

Twin sisters
Kyleen and Kim Carpenter competed against each other in the Amateur Women’s Division for the first place trophy. Kyleen jumped out to a big lead on day one after her opening 76.
Kim posted an 84 on day one. Kim made a charge on Sunday, shooting lower than her sister after a 79, but it wasn’t enough. Kyleen finished with an 82 on Sunday which gave her a total of 158,
five better than her sister Kim. This is Kyleen’s first victory of the year.

Jacob Penny of Valrico, FL dominated the Young Men 11-12 Division over the weekend at Emerald Greens. Penny played consistently and kept his score close to par all weekend, shooting an
even par round of 72 on Saturday followed up by a three over round of 75 on Sunday. After the win, Penny said, “It has been really enjoyable returning to tournament golf.  The course was
challenging and I appreciated the sportsmanship of my fellow competitors.” Penny earned his first victory of the 2011 season and 1200 points for his win. Runner up in the Division went to
Blake
Wheeler
of Fort Myers, FL, who shot 102-106-208 in his first event on Premier. Shooting 129-130 and coming in third place was Luke Telese of Dade City, FL, also a first time competitor.

Also winning for the first time in the 2011 season was Women 10-13 competitor
Alyssa Lamoureux of Seminole, FL. Lamoureux posted rounds of 98 and 111 for a total of 209. Runner up in the
Division went to
Regan Taylor of Fort Myers, FL. Taylor opened with 122 but came back nicely on Sunday by way of a round of 100. Just one stroke behind Taylor and in third place was first time
Premier competitor
Bianca Sol Cruz of Largo, FL. Sol Cruz shot 116 and 107 for a 223 total.

Winning the Boys 7-8 Division top spot for the 9th time this season was
Jake Horner of Brandon, FL. Horner held on to a slim four stroke lead after day one, where he shot 41. Horner, however,
secured a victory after shooting an impressive one over par round of 37 on Sunday. The total of 78 gave Horner a 17 stroke victory. Runner up in the Division was awarded to
Gunter Williams of
Grand Island, FL. Williams recorded rounds of 45 and 50 for a total of 95.
Siddharth Chackravarthy of Tampa, FL finished third in the Division, shooting 47-56-103.
