2011 HIGHLANDS RESERVE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT STORY

HORSFIELD DOMINATES FIELD, SHATTERS TOUR RECORDS... AGAIN!

Stubbs, Fischer, Hill,Brimhall, Penny, Dalili, Ikeda, Watson all Victorious Champions

August 21, 2011

Davenport, FLPJT competitors from Florida, Massachusetts, England, Venezuela and Canada were greeted by light breezes,
partly cloudy skies and light winds at the beautiful Highlands Reserve Golf Club, as they competed August 20-21, 2011 at Premier
Junior Tour’s 2011 Highlands Reserve Junior Championship. Early morning starts on both days provided players with low winds
for their rounds, providing good scoring opportunities.

The
highlight story of the weekend was once again fourteen-year-old Sam Horsfield (2015) of Davenport, Florida, who dominated competition and the Highlands Reserve golf course, which is
also Sam's home course.  During Round 1 Sam recorded a PJT record-tying low
round, set by Sam September 12, 2009, of an eight-under par 64!  This gave Sam a record-low 17-under par in the
last three PJT tournaments, and a 41-under par over Sam's last five tournaments!  Round 2's 67 increased Sam's sub-par numbers to 54-under par over his last five tournaments, 41 under par in
PJT's last four tournaments!  Sam's most recent eight PJT rounds and five rounds
outside PJT, 13 rounds total, have all been under par.  Sam's 13-under par for this tournament gave him a 13-
stroke Championship
victory over the combined field, and 25 strokes over his closest 13-15 year old competitor. Sam also shattered the all-time Low 36-hole Record in any Division with his 64-67-
131
, a good four strokes better than the record.  The prior record was also set by Sam, just two tournaments ago at Black Bear Golf Club on July 23-24, 2011, when he posted 66-69-135. Said
Sam: "The key to my victory this
weekend was that I hit the ball really well.  I only missed one green the whole entire tournament  and it was the second day, the third hole, I was just on the fringe.   I
made a lot of 10-15 footers for birdie and I also made two eagles
, one today and one yesterday. I hit the ball really good... hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and a couple of putts, so that was
good.
" This is Sam's seventh PJT victory in Points Race 2011.

Claiming an impressive par tournament win in the Men 16-19 of 72-72-144 was
Charlie Stubbs (2012) of Eustis, Florida who recorded four birdies in Round 1 and four birdies in Round 2 en route
to his first PJT Victory!  This ensures Charlie's Invitation to the PJT's Tour Championship in December.
Congrats Charlie! Said Charlie: "The first one I did pretty well, I started off par-par, then I
bogeyed. Then I came back and got a birdie after that and I just kept
on increasing the day. It was 72. I liked my pairing for that day."  Charlie's front nines both days were one under, and both days
the back nine were one over.
Coming in Runner-Up in the Men 16-19 was Chet Ghioto (2013) of Lutz, Florida, who matched Charlie's Round 2 par round to claim the Runner-Up trophy with three
birdies in the final round. Chet also recorded an eagle on the Par 5 13th hole during Round 1!  Rounding the Top 3 Finish was
Justin Hulbert (2011) of Orlando, Florida, with rounds of 78-76,
playing his final junior tournament with PJT before college!  Runner-Up in the Men 13-15 was
Johel Orellanes (2014) of Lakeland, Florida, with matching rounds of 78. Taking home Third Place
was
Jonathan Sundstrom (2014) of Orlando, Florida, posting 78-80.

The Amateur Men Champion was
Patrick Fischer of Leesburg, Florida, turning in rounds of 78-80-158. Says Patrick: "The keys to victory was my chipping most likely. Getting up and down from all
over the place. My driving was ok   My putting was ok, my iron play was good, but wh
en I got into trouble my chipping was the key.  The weather was nice, the course was in great shape, the greens
were rolling good, the fairways were nice, tee boxes were nice, and
speaking of my chipping, I chipped in for birdie on hole 14 in the second round, so that got me going on the back nine." This is
Patrick's sixth victory in the 2011 PJT Points Race.

Meanwhile, in the Women's Divisions,
Melissa Hill (2012) of Sorrento, Florida, posted consistent rounds of 82-82-164 to claim the Championship in the Women 14-19. Melissa states: "Yesterday I
had some real
ly great putts and I holed out for eagle, and I had two birdies.  I struck the ball well. You can always do better, but I thought I played very well."  Melissa had two birdies over the
weekend, and eagled the par four fifth hole in Round 2! Melissa's win ensures her Tour Championship Invitation. Congrats Melissa!

In the Women 10-13,
Samantha Brimhall  (2017) of Rockledge, Florida commented: "Well yesterday I drove the ball really good this weekend at Highlands Reserve.  I shot 79, then 81 this
afternoon.
I really enjoyed the golf course because of the layout. It was very challenging but I still enjoyed it. There were a few holes that were tough, but I got through it. I think that driving was really
my best area
this weekend and putting was a little iffy but I got through it."  This was Samantha's fifth PJT victory in Points Race 2011.

Champion in the Young Men 11-12 Division was
Jacob Penny (2017) of Valrico, Florida.  Jacob stated, "The strength of my game this weekend was my tee shots, my driving and my putting. My
putting was
really good too!" Jacob's rounds of 77 and two-under par 70 in Round 2 included three birdies each day.  Each of Jacob's Round 2 nines were one under par. This is Jacob's third PJT
victory in 2011. Finishing Runner-Up was
Daniel Core (2018) of Newmarket, Ontario Canada with consistent rounds of 83-81. Coming in Third Place was David Roberts of Orlando, Florida
posting 87-86.

Boys 9-10 Division Champion,
Carter Dalili (2020) of Vero Beach, Florida shared, "Well, I'd like to thank my Dad for coming here with me, and I'd like to thank my competitors for playing with me,
but I think my short game was the best part of my game. I think my approach shots
on the first day were pretty good also." Carter shot a one-under par 71 in Round 1, featuring six birdies, including
three back to back birdies followed by a par. In Round 2 Carter had fifteen pars, a birdie, bogey and a double to finish out 74. This is Carter's third victory in 2011. Runner-Up
Tyler Wilkes (2020) of
Tampa, Florida kept the competition close by trailing Carter by only four shots after day one, and shooting 75 on day two, only five shots behind Carter. Tyler had six birdies over the weekend,
including birdies both days on Hole #7.  Flying in from Caracas Venezuela,
Steven Pabon, Jr (2019) recorded rounds of 77-80, with 20 pars and highlighting four birdies.

Girls 8-9 Champion
Megan Ikeda (2020) of Windermere, Florida commented: "The last couple of days were really hot.  I had good drives and one birdie." Megan had eight pars and one birdie for
her 40-41 rounds.  Boys 7-8 Champion
Daniel Watson shared:  "I had lots of fun playing with my friends.  It was hot weather." Daniel posted 60-57, and his victory ensures him a spot in the year-
end Tour Championship!  Congrats Daniel!
Jared Steel (2022) of Bath England came in Runner-Up posting 65-64, playing consistently both days!
