2011 SOUTHERN WOODS JUNIOR OPEN TOURNAMENT STORY

RECORD NUMBER OF PLAY-OFFS NEEDED TO CROWN CHAMPIONS!
Homosassa, FL - A cooler fall weather pattern awaited PJT competitors at Southern Woods Golf Club this past weekend. The
cooler weather and plenty of sunshine provided perfect playing conditions on this beautifully wooded course. The greens were fast
and true.
For the Men 16 – 19 division, the tournament started with a close race. Five players were within five shots after round one. The
excitement didn’t stop after 18 holes though. Matthew Rothrock of Largo, FL and Fred Raymond of Canada both finished 36 holes
of regulation play at 158, and an on-course sudden death play-off was needed to determine the Champion. Matthew prevailed to
take home the Championship and his first PJT victory! Then another play-off was needed (a chip and putt off) to determine the third
place finisher between Sean Fromme of Palm Harbor, FL and Mark Giardino of Homosassa, FL. Sean won the play-off.
Keeping with the theme of close finishes, the Men 13-15 Division also required two play-offs. Joseph Trim of Tampa, FL and Jake Grula of Winter Park, FL both finished in regulation with 160. In
the on-course, sudden death play-off, Joseph triumphed for his first PJT victory! Jake Grula won Runner-Up for the division. Then in a chip and putt playoff, third place was determined between
four players who had tied at 163: Nilo Sanchez, Michael Stewart, Chris Flaherty and James DiBiasio. Nilo claimed Third Place.
The Women 14 – 19 year old division saw Megan Berube of Spring Hill, FL shoot a one-over par 73 after round one, leading the field by 12 strokes. Then in round two, Megan finished the
tournament 7 shots clear of her nearest competitor, and Megan took home her first 2011 PJT Championship, as well as the Low Tournament Round of 73. Micah Adams of Bushnell, FL came in
Runner-Up , and Maddy Smith of Palm City, FL claimed Third Place.
In the Women 10 – 13 year old division, Ashley Zagers of Oldsmar, FL led the division by five strokes after round one, and in round two, Ashley picked up another five strokes to garner her first PJT
Championship in 2011. Taking home Runner-Up honors is Keona Evans of Windermere FL, and coming in Third Place is Madison Heideman of Largo, FL.
The Boys 9-10 Champion is Carter Dalili of Vero Beach, FL, whose 76-78-154 is one of two players to hold the low tournament round honors among all 18 hole/day divisions. This is Carter’s 6th
PJT Championship in 2011!
Young Men 11-12 Champion Teddy Tetak of Bradenton, FL is the other competitor who holds the low tournament round honors among all 18 hole/day divisions. This is Teddy’s second win in
2011 on the PJT, and includes a win by two strokes. Coming in Runner-Up is Daniel Core of Canada, and Third Place honors went to Miguel Reyes of Homosassa, FL.
In the 9-hole/day divisions, Alex Ogle of St. Petersburg, FL took home the 9-hole/day low tournament round of an amazing 6-under par with two three-under round pars! Alex also took home the
Southern Woods Championship, Alex’s 12th PJT Victory of 2012! Raaghuv Nandur of Ocala, FL took home Runner-Up honors in his 2nd PJT tournament!
Fisher Cusic of Lakeland, FL took the Championship in the Boys 7-8 Division in his first PJT tournament! Nicole Felce of Holiday, FL took home the Championship in the Girls 7&U Division, her
2nd Victory in as many attempts!
