2011 MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA TOURNAMENT STORY
Gainesville, FL – Players were greeted by warm temperatures and a challenging course as they competed August 13-14, 2011 at
Premier Junior Tour’s 2011 Major Championship at The University of Florida. Early morning starts on both days provided players
with low winds for most of their rounds, providing good scoring opportunities. AJGA exemptions and Kikkor Golf gift cards were up
for grabs at the year’s third Major, as well as double points and beautiful trophies.

Low total of the event belonged to Men 16-19 Division competitor,
Alden Davis of Chiefland, FL. Davis jumped out to a three stroke
lead after firing a three under par 67 on day one. Davis commented on his first round, “I didn’t three putt at all, I hit a lot of greens, the
driver was good. I hit a wedge to about a foot on Hole #1 and made birdie, also came back and birded 8, and also birdied a par four
on the back nine to shoot three under. I had no bogeys at all. This was my first time under par.” Three strokes behind Davis at
even-par 70 was
Ryan Orr of Belleair, FL. Four competitors came in at 72 after day one, keeping themselves within distance of the
lead. Davis stayed strong on Sunday, however, which proved to be the tougher scoring day. Sunday not only had tougher pin
positions, but also higher winds. Davis closed with a three over par round of 73, giving himself a total of even par 140 and a three
stroke victory. Orr finished second, after closing with a 73 for a total of 143. Third place in the Division was awarded to
Ryan Nicoll of
Spring Hill, FL. Nicoll surged into the third place position after a finishing with a closing round of three under par 67, which followed his score of 77 on day one. For the victory, Davis earned one
AJGA exemption, as well as a $100 Kikkor Golf Gift card.

Erica Stoner of Ocala, FL dominated the Women 14-19 Division over the weekend at UF. An opening round of two over par 72 gave Stoner a comfortable six stroke lead over her nearest
competitor. Although, Stoner saw most of her lead dissipate on her very first hole Sunday, the par 4 10th, in which Stoner totaled a 9. After the 9, Stoner said, “I just decided to take one shot at a
time and one hole at a time.” Stoner recovered nicely, playing the rest of her round at even par. “Coming down the stretch I made a few birdies and made some putts,” said Stoner. The Sunday 75
gave Stoner a total of 147 for the weekend, which lead to a six stroke victory. This is Stoner’s second win in a row at UF, she also won last year’s event. The victory earned Stoner an AJGA
exemption as well as a $100 Kikkor Golf gift card. Runner up in the Division went to
Emma Paschal of Palm Harbor, FL. Paschal, a winner of last week’s event at Emerald Greens, opened with an
80. However, she bounced back impressively, scoring a 3 over par 73 on Sunday to move from the third position to the second. Two time winner in 2011
Belinda George of Plant City, FL took home
the third place trophy at UF. George shot rounds of 78 and 83 for a total of 161.

Impressing all in his first start on Premier was Men 13-15 Division competitor
Julian Rippert of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Rippert opened with a solid round of one over par 71, giving himself a
three stroke lead over three competitors who were tied at 74 after Round 1. Rippert stayed strong on Sunday, totaling a four over par round of 74, giving himself a total of five over par 145, and a
three stroke victory. None of the competitors at 74 after day 1 were able to mount a charge against Rippert. Rippert pointed out that, “accuracy, hitting the greens, hitting a lot of fairways, and
making a lot of putts” were the keys to his success this weekend. For the victory Rippert earned a $100 Kikkor Golf gift card and 2400 points.
Mason Fox of Sarasota, FL stayed consistent both
days, shooting matching rounds of 74 to give himself a 148 total and second place. Third in the Division went to
Donald Leacock of Atlantic Shores, Barbados. Leacock posted rounds of 76 and
77 for a total of 153 and the third place honors.

Winning for the 6th time this year in the Amateur Men’s Division was
Patrick Fischer of Leesburg, FL. Fischer opened with a 78 on Saturday, and stayed consistent, posting a round of 79 on
Sunday. “The key to victory was starting out strong and then holding on through the back nine,” said Fischer. For the victory Fischer earned 2400 points.

Earning victory for the second week in a row in the Young Men 11-12 Division was
Jacob Penny of Valrico, FL. Penny found himself one back of fellow competitor Travis Wells of Land O Lakes, FL
after Wells bettered Penny’s 78 by going one lower with a 77. However, Penny came back strong on Sunday, closing with a three over par round of 73, and earning a nine stroke victory after Wells
struggled to an 83 on Sunday. For the victory Penny earned 2400 points and he has now climbed to second place on the Young Men 11-12 Points List. Penny also received a $100 Kikkor Golf gift
card for his victory. Wells earned 2000 points for his second place finish.
Ryan Hicks of Clearwater, FL finished third in the Division, shooting 81-81-162.

Samantha Brimhall of Rockledge, FL won impressively in the Women’s 10-13 Division. Brimhall opened with an 80, which gave her a comfortable lead going into Sunday. Following up her Round
1 score of 80 with a Sunday 84 gave Brimhall a total of 164, and a nineteen stroke victory. “This weekend I was driving the ball pretty good, putting well. The strongest point of my game this
weekend was pitching the ball, I just really had a great time,” Brimhall commented. Brimhall sits atop the Women 10-13 Points Standings, and for the victory Brimhall earned a $100 Kikkor Golf gift
card as well as points and a trophy.
Ashley Zagers of Oldsmar, FL finished second in the Division. Rounds of 93 and 90 combined to make a 183 total for Zagers. Third place went to Haley
Danford
of Longwood, FL, who shot rounds of 92 and 98 which gave her a total of 190 and third place.

The Boys 9-10 Division saw
Tyler Wilkes of Tampa, FL winning for the third time in four 2011 starts. Wilkes opened with a five over par 75, giving himself a two stroke victory over his nearest
competitor heading into Sunday. Wilkes toughed it out on day two, scoring an 81 and holding on for a two stroke victory. Wilkes commented, “the golf course was great and I hit the ball really well.
Also I did not hit any balls in the hazards or out of bounds.” The victory surged Wilkes to the top of the current Boys 9-10 Division Points Standings. Second place in the Division had to be decided
by a chip and putt playoff after
Morgan Tournemire of Delray Beach, FL and Maxwell Coutsolioutsos of Lakewood Ranch, FL were tied in regulation at 158. Tournemire (77-81) emerged victorious
from the playoff and claimed the second place trophy. Coutsolioutsos (80-78) earned the third place trophy.

Winning for the 10th time in the Boys 7-8 Division this season was
Jake Horner of Brandon, FL. Horner opened with a 41 on day one, not his best. But, Horner bounced back strong on Sunday,
shooting a two over par 37 to give himself a total of 78 and the victory. Horner commented that, “my putting, my short game, my driver, and my iron shots” were the keys to victory for him this
weekend.

Boys 6 & Under competitor
Alex Ogle of St. Petersburg, FL earned his 8th victory in a row over the weekend at UF.  Ogle scored rounds of 41 and 40 for a total of 81. “On the 7th hole I almost
chipped in, it just barely lipped out, and I didn’t give up,” said Ogle. Ogle earned 2400 points for his victory.
