Gainesville, FL - Fast, firm conditions complimented with dry and cold weather made for a challenging weekend of golf at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at The University of Florida. Premier Junior
Tour visited the University Course for the its third event of the 2011 season. Saturday featured temperatures around 50 degrees with sunny skies all day. Sunday brought forth temperatures around
the same with skies starting mostly cloudy and giving way to some sunshine as the players finished their rounds. Fast greens, firm fairways, and an excellently conditioned course greeted the
players as they competed over the weekend.
Men 16-19
Ryan Nicoll of Spring Hill, FL came from two strokes back to grab his first career win on Premier. Nicoll found himself two strokes back of first round leader Jonathan Kopsell of Hudson, FL.
Kopsell opened with a 76 and Nicoll had 78. Tied for third after Round 1 in the Division at 79 was Dustin Dingus of Palm Harbor, FL and Alden Davis of Chiefland, FL. Nicoll posted a Sunday 74,
giving him a total of 152 and a one stroke victory over Dingus, who also posted 74 on Sunday. A chip and putt playoff ensued for third place between Kopsell (76-80) and Zachary Horne (80-76) of
Ormond Beach, FL. Kopsell emerged victorious on the second chip and putt off hole to gain third place.
Women 14-19
First time Premier competitor Amanda Kim of South Korea impressed in her first event on the tour. Kim opened with a tournament low round of three under par 67 on day one. Kim finished with a
tournament low total of even par 140 after she posted a three over par 73 on Sunday. Runner up in the Division went to Julia McQuilken of Riverview, FL. McQuilken followed a round one of 79 with
an 81 on round two. Her 160 total gave her second place. This is the second event in a row where McQuilken finished runner up. Third place was awarded to Isabella Doub of Bradenton, FL after
Doub scored matching rounds of 83 for a 166 total.
Men 13-15
In the Men 13-15 Division Youxin Wang of China earned his second career victory on Premier, his first in the 2011 season. Wang completed a two stroke comeback for his victory. Colin Julian of
Valrico, FL jumped out to a round one lead with a five over par round of 75. Julian came in with a round of 79 on Sunday, which gave him a 154 total, two strokes behind Wang after Wang followed
his opening round of 77 with a five over par round of 75 for a 152 total. Jimmy Pitenis of Daytona Beach, FL was awarded 800 points for his third place finish. Pitenis opened with a 79 and shot a
Sunday 78 for a 157 total.
Women 10-13
Samantha Brimhall of Rockledge, FL also came from behind for her victory in the Women 10-13 Division. Brimhall entered Sunday one behind fellow competitor Amy Zhang of Lake Mary, FL.
Zhang had a one stroke lead going into Sunday over Brimhall after Zhang posted an 88. Zhang, however, shot a round of 100 on Sunday. Brimhall posted a 94 for a 183 total. Brimhall earned her
first victory in her first event on Premier and earned 1200 points for the win.
Young Men 11-12
A first round of two over par 72 gave Li Zongfan of China a comfortable lead and enabled him to cruise to victory. Zongfan posted a 78 on Sunday, giving him a 150 total and an eight stroke victory.
Second place in the Division went to Brandon Mancheno of Jacksonville, FL. Mancheno was able to improve his Saturday round of 83 by eight strokes on Sunday with a five over par round of 75,
giving him a 158 total. Christophe Stutts of Maitland, FL earned third place in the Division. Stutts bettered his round one 85 by six strokes on day two with a 79.
Boys 9-10
Gaining his first career victory in five Premier events played was Carter Dalili of Vero Beach, FL. Dalili played consistently with rounds of 88 and 86 for a 174 total. This was Dalili's first event in the
18-hole Boys 9-10 Division. Runner up went to Dean Riley Neale of Bradenton, FL. Neale opened with a 104. Neale bettered his Saturday round by five strokes with a 99.
Girls 8-9
Mimi Chen of Longwood, FL gained her first career victory in the Girls 8-9 Division over the weekend at UF. Chen opened with a 48 and followed that round up with a 46 for a total of 94. Chen has
now finished second and first in her last two events on Premier.
Boys 7-8
Jake Horner of Brandon, FL tied his lowest ever total in the Boys 7-8 Division. Horner posted rounds of 41 and 39, giving him a total of 80 and the victory. 80 ties Horner's lowest ever total in the
Boys 7-8 Division. The other time Horner shot 80 was Sep 25-26, 2010 at the Highlands Reserve Fall Championship.
Girls 7 & Under
In the Girls 7 & Under Division, Brianna Castaldi of Port St Lucie added a sixth first place finish to her resume after a victory at UF. Castaldi improved her opening round of 50 by three strokes on
Sunday with a 47. Castaldi moved her 2011 Point Total to 2000 points with the victory.
Boys 6 & Under
Aaron Zhang of Lake Mary, FL continued his strong play in the Boys 6 & Under Division with an impressive showing over the weekend. Zhang recorded matching rounds of 37 for the event, giving
him a total of four over par 74. Alex Ogle of St Petersburg, FL finished second in the Division. An opening round of 44 but him seven strokes behind Zhang, however, Ogle improved on his day two
round by posting a 39.
